Mysterious Check from Hershey Chocolates

One day about 15 year ago, I got an envelope with Hershey's logo in mail. I opened it to find a letter and a $25 check made out to me. The letter, issued by a lawyer's office, announced that my name had been entered in one of Hershey Chocolates sweepstakes, and that I won $25.

Ginger Pear Salad

Do you have that pear (or peach) that is getting a bit old and starting to soften? No need to throw it out -- here's a tasty and quick recipe to make use of that fruit. Please note that this recipe requires either fresh ginger, or minced ginger that comes in a jar or tube that you can find in the produce department -- using ginger spice may not work here.

Black Umbrella at a Grocery Store

Here's a very short story, sort of a shaggy dog story, that I had written in a creative writing workshop last year.

Moroccan Lemon Chicken

I'd been cooking this dish since late 1980's, and I had gotten it from an old Turkish cookbook at a library. It's a braised dish of chicken with onions and green olives, cooked for a while with parts of a lemon. A friend asked for the recipe, so here it is. I suggest serving this dish with couscous.

An Oral Failure from Oklahoma

This was originally an autobiographical essay I wrote for Dr. Robert Panara's class at Rochester Institute of Technology in mid-1980's. It was just altered for clarification and better readability.

Here's a short story that pedestrians, especially ones who have run-ins with self-absorbed beings who operate vehicles called automobiles, should appreciate.

Introduction

This is where I'll be posting all sorts of things -- creative writing, recipes, photos, musings and so on. You will not see cake wrecks, badly crafted products (unless done by truly yours :-)  ) or awkward family portraits here. But I do have a few other blogs that you may be interested in:

Ugly Motel Rooms - postcards of ugly motel rooms and related subjects (and in case you're asking, yep, I have quite a few postcards of Madonna Inn)

Postcards Go Postal - collection of odd, campy and interesting postcards

Lemon Drop Ride - my dream journal

I'm also working on a new blog named Space City Cheap Eats, coming to a browser near you.
